YOUR FIRST USEFUL OBSERVATION

The opening idea

If every candidate in a color region lies in one column, that column is reserved for that region even before its cat is placed.

Cat coordinates

  1. R1C1Row 1, column 1
  2. R2C3Row 2, column 3
  3. R3C5Row 3, column 5
  4. R4C2Row 4, column 2
  5. R5C4Row 5, column 4
  6. R6C6Row 6, column 6

The 6 cats occupy distinct rows, columns and regions. Neighboring rows place cats at least two columns apart, so no cats touch at a corner.

Why the key move works

Reserve column 5 for brown

R2 C5 is in an occupied row. R3 C3 uses the starting column and R3 C4 touches the starting cat. Brown is left with R3 C5 or R4 C5, so no other color may use column 5.

Complete solving process

All steps are shown below. The route uses rule-based deductions and explains each forced square or exclusion. You can use the answer above to check your board without reading the whole sequence.

01

Keep the starting cat at R2 C3

The small light-pink region is complete. Use its row, column and diagonal exclusions before working on the large regions.

Outlined cells show this step’s change. Cats and X marks carry forward.

Step 1 · Keep the starting cat at R2 C3
02

Place the bottom-right single at R6 C6

This darker pink color has one square. R6 C6 is forced, so row 6 and column 6 are complete.

Outlined cells show this step’s change. Cats and X marks carry forward.

Reserve column 5 for brown

Step 3 · Reserve column 5 for brown
04

Force the teal cat at R1 C1

The remaining teal candidates are R1 C1 and R1 C5. Column 5 is reserved for brown, so teal must use R1 C1.

Outlined cells show this step’s change. Cats and X marks carry forward.

Step 4 · Force the teal cat at R1 C1
05

Force the bright-pink cat at R4 C2

Its cells in column 1 or row 6 are excluded, and R4 C3 shares the starting column. That leaves only R4 C2 in the large bright-pink region.

Outlined cells show this step’s change. Cats and X marks carry forward.

Level 8, step 5: Force the bright-pink cat at R4 C2112233445566
Step 5 · Force the bright-pink cat at R4 C2
06

Place brown at R3 C5

The brown candidate R4 C5 is now in the completed fourth row. Brown therefore uses R3 C5.

Outlined cells show this step’s change. Cats and X marks carry forward.

Level 8, step 6: Place brown at R3 C5112233445566
Step 6 · Place brown at R3 C5
07

Finish light green at R5 C4

Row 5 is the last row without a cat, and column 4 is the last unused column. Place the final cat at their intersection.

Outlined cells show this step’s change. Cats and X marks carry forward.

Level 8, step 7: Finish light green at R5 C4112233445566
Step 7 · Finish light green at R5 C4

What can go wrong on Level 8?

  • R3 C2 touches the starting cat at R2 C3 diagonally. The source recording shows a wrong attempt there.
  • The large bright-pink outer region and the darker pink bottom-right single are separate colors.

Audit the row, column, colored region and immediate diagonal neighbors after every cat. If your copied board gives no solution, check uncertain X marks before changing a region boundary.

The lesson to carry into the next board

If every candidate in a color region lies in one column, that column is reserved for that region even before its cat is placed.

On your next puzzle, look for the same type of constraint before choosing a square. A useful question is: “Which row, column or region now has fewer candidates because of my last cat?” Keep the answer tied to a specific marked cell.

Level 8 questions

What is the Meowdoku Level 8 answer?

For this 6×6 recorded board, the cats belong at R1C1, R2C3, R3C5, R4C2, R5C4, R6C6. Compare the opening regions and given cats before applying the answer.

Why does the video use a different move order?

Several forced moves can be available at once. The written guide orders them to explain a clear deduction chain. Rejected trial crosses in the source video are not placements to copy.

What if my board is different?

Use the Meowdoku solver with your exact region map and known cats. A different map can have a different answer under the same number.
